Orrbi is a retro-styled, level-based game inspired by arcade classics like Q*Bert. In it, you hop along a tiled stage, avoiding enemies that chase you and collecting fruits and fish. There's 13 stages in total, each one harder than the last. Collect points by dodging enemies and grabbing food to win a stage, hopping your way to the end!

Orrbi's development was slow and a little harrowing but it was pretty well worth it to make the finished product. It's far from perfect but it was a big step towards my improvement with giving up on games, thanks to help from Aelia, my partner.

Orrbi's beta life

Before Orrbi was Orrbi, it was a game called Ebloch, a turn based endless action game where the world's theme would change every day. After several days of struggling to code in the dynamic layering required to make it not look like garbage, it was ultimately scrapped. It would later resurface as Orrbi, which reused the same basic movement concepts, but it didn't really carry over anything else from the base version.

Ebloch's enemy designs. You can see how three of the designs were recycled. Also, a reference to The Man 3.

Cancelled mobile spinoff

Some time after its release, development of a spinoff game called Orrbi Forever started development with the purpose of being released as a mobile game. It restarted the heart of Ebloch's core ideas, bringing back level themes--though instead of changing randomly, there were 7 separate levels for each day of the week. Though its development trailed off and came to a stop, it was cancelled for good after a personal decision to stop working on things I didn't want to make at all any more.

Friday's theme, "Haunted House." The other levels were desert, toxic, carnival, ice, sea, and classic (not ordered)
